Welcome to the Mahjong Open!

It is with great excitement that Bay State Bam announces our partnership with The Mahjong Open as the commissioner for the Greater Boston Metro area! We are delighted to bring this innovative and flexible league option to our community members, and can’t wait to see all the new connections that happen around the tables region wide!

Eight Weeks, Play Your Way

Each series is exactly 8 weeks long. When you register, you’re in for the full series in your city — play as much or as little as you want, all for one flat rate.

Every week, any paid player in your city can create or join a 4-person table. You pick the day, time, and location. The game happens. The table creator submits the score, and it lands in every player’s portal and the standings immediately. Repeat.

A Flexible League Option for Everyone

The Mahjong Open is a flexible league designed to meet players at the table where they are, whenever they play! This eight week league series allows each individual league member to propose an official table, invite friends and fellow competitors to gather for a game and count their points toward league prizes.

The Mahjong Open

the Bay State Bam Way

Bay State Bam has signed on with the Mahjong Open with intentionality and our community members in mind. It is always our mission to meet our players at the table, wherever they are, whenever they want to play! Being a part of the Mahjong Open allows our community members to play competitively at every event, every table, every time (if they so wish!). Your Monday night Mahj gathering just qualified you for some great league prizes! That ticket to Open Play may just be the games that launch you into the top of the leaderboard?

Are you joining me for my Fall 2026 in person league series with Troop Mahjong? Guess what- those games can count DOUBLE. As a Mahjong Open League participant, you will be able to request seating alongside other participants in the Open, and can log your table at in person league events with Bay State Bam in MahWins AND in the Mahjong Open for qualification in both league grand prize options! Bay State Bam is committed to utilizing small/local/women owned businesses to fund prize packages for league winners and beyond.

Places you might host a Mahjong Open League Table:

  • Weekdays after bedtime with your favorite Mahj Squad

  • At your friend’s house over a casual lunch

  • Out at your favorite brewery with friends

  • Sunday Morning Mahjong at your house while the kids play in the yard

  • At your child’s sporting event, while you watch them practice on the field

  • In your pool! Aquajong gets official!

  • On your lunch break at work, with co workers who are also Mahj players. A great opportunity for a few quick games!

The opportunities are truly endless with the flexible league format. Additionally, there is a second city option if you travel and are near another Mahjong Open community!

Come to the table when you want, where you want, however you are.

There is a seat waiting for you!

Prizes and League Benefits

The Mahjong Open of Greater Boston awards prizes for three of the League leaders in our city as per the Mahjong Open League Rules the following categories:

  • The Ace: The player with the single highest round during the 8 week season in our City/Region,

  • The Champion: The player with the highest cumulative score by taking the highest round of each player’s score each week.

  • The Flight: The overall winner as the highest average by taking the average of all of the rounds incorporating one dropped round per week. This score is calculated by taking the 7 highest average scores (1 for each week of gameplay, dropping the lowest of the 8 weeks).

In addition to these three prize opportunities for each region, there is a City to City competition. If your city is in the lead of all participating cities and regions, you win a city level prize. This is calculated utilizing the top three rounds each week in cumulative score for all eight weeks in the city to city battle.

A massive benefit of working with the Mahjong Open is that Commissioners are able to select their own prize packages for the winners, which means it is possible to support local businesses and independent manufacturers whenever possible.
